Penderecki String Quartet
This ensemble, formed in 1986 at the request of pre-eminent Polish
composer Krzysztof Penderecki, continues to hold a reputation of
international stature. To this day the Quartet is a devoted champion
of contemporary music, commissioning new works from Brian
Cherney, Randolph Peters, Glenn Buhr, Bruce Mather and Raymond
Luedeke. They have collaborated with Vladimir Feltsman, James
Campbell, Lev Natochenny, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi and Janina
Fialkowska. Their recordings include the complete Penderecki String
Quartets and Piano Quintets by Brahms, Shostakovich and Schnittke.
For the past eight years the Penderecki has been Quartet-in-Residence at Canada's Wilfrid Laurier University teaching and
promoting chamber music of the highest quality.
